Artist's
Statement -
I've always had a fascination for creating pieces out of unusual
materials. I love the challenge of combining different mediums
and techniques in the same piece to produce a work both
beautiful and timeless yet also functional.
I
find it exhilarating to illuminate the reflective quality of the
wire in my designs through the use of color, texture and surface
patterns. Envisioning how to utilize all these elements creates
an air of excitement and an eagerness to explore and to
transform new materials into a tangible, beautiful object.
Although it does not always come easily, I find that intuition
is my best guide while designing.
I
am driven by a strong need to create and by an unswerving desire
to question what I see to come to a better understanding of the
world that surrounds me.
I
like to think of each piece as its own special entity. A little
relic serving as a window to the soul, a portal to the very core
where my truest inspirations lie. A place where each piece
inspires the next. Mistakes become new designs and mishaps
become new techniques. I am constantly learning, reinventing and
refining. This, to me, is the essence of being an artist and a
designer.
McDermott
